The Emporia State basketball season will be allowed to begin as scheduled. The MIAA CEO Council Thursday decided to allow basketball practices to begin on October 15th and the first games to be played November 18th and 19th.
The Council did express concerns about the new NCAA testing recommendations and travel considerations. The new recommendations include 3 tests a week.
Emporia State mens basketball Coach Craig Doty says they remain cautiously optimistic.
The Emporia State men and women are scheduled to open the season November 19th at Nebraska Kearney.
The CEO Council also decided not to develop a formal spring football schedule. Schools can hold no more than 4 joint practices, scrimmages or games with other schools. Schools can also pursue limited independent schedules this fall.
There will be no cross country championship in the spring.
It is the intent of the MIAA at this time to hold a formal spring season for both soccer and volleyball.
Emporia State volleyball coach Bing Xu says this gives the team something to focus on.
Issues concerning the season structure, team schedules, conference awards and statistics, spring tournaments, and other sport issues will continue to be discussed by each sport’s MIAA Monitoring Group.
All Seasons and competition will be need to follow NCAA and local health guidelines.
