Lyon County continues to add coronavirus cases — gradually — but it’s sliding down the state’s list of overall cases per county.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment now has Lyon County 14th overall, based on its count of 1,040 cases — slightly behind the county Public Health Department’s announced total of 1,092 cases. According to KDHE stats, Ellis County is 13th with 1,085 cases. Lyon County, which is 17th in population by county, had been as high as eighth in caseload early in the pandemic.
Johnson County now leads Kansas with almost 12,000 of the state’s 61,111 cases. Sedgwick County has nearly 9,300 cases and is second on the list. There are now 15 counties with at least 1,000 cases, and their cumulative total accounts for over 49,000 — or over 80 percent — of the state’s overall caseload since mid-March.
As far as other stats go, Lyon County’s weekly percent positive rate is now 4.76 percent, down from 8 percent the previous week and below the 15.7 percent overall positivity rate.
KDHE is reporting 1,530 cases for the KVOE listening area since mid-March. The highest area total from KDHE is in Coffey County with 127 cases, although the county now has not given an offiicial update since moving its reporting date to Friday. Morris County has the area low, based on KDHE stats, with 43 cases.
