Fire crews quickly quelled a grass fire south of Emporia Saturday evening.
Emporia Fire and Olpe First Responders were called to 1186 Road D, roughly 10 miles south of Emporia, shortly before 7:20 pm. According to EFD the fire had scorched about five acres of grass by the time they arrived on the scene.
According to Emporia Fire Captain Bill Harmon, the fire scorched a total of eight acres before it was extinguished. Harmon says the fire began as a controlled burn and later became out of control.
No injuries were reported and the fire was not located near any structures.
