The state of Kansas has ended its relationship with a private contractor that had been processing Medicaid applications.
Back in 2016, then-governor Sam Brownback’s administration hired Maximus to make the application process more efficient. However, the company was beset by issues like backlogs and its customer-service call center also fared poorly.
Governor Kelly’s choice for the job is Conduent, a company that offers Medicaid processing and customer service for 17 states including Missouri. However, Conduent has had separate issues, including a lawsuit alleging Medicaid fraud for overcharging Texas dentists. The lawsuit was settled last year.
The contract starts next year.
