Newman Regional Health’s parking lot played host to a special bbq fundraiser Wednesday all to support therapy services through the hospital.
The Denim and Diamonds BBQ event sold out before any food was officially served as pre-orders piled up at a record pace leading up to the event. Newman Director of Business Development McKenzie Cinelli says it feels incredible to see the event succeed the way it did.
Wednesday’s lunch is all part of the hospital’s traditional Denim and Diamond’s fundraising efforts, which unfortunately had to be curtailed this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Newman Events Coordinator Katherine Martin says originally the Denim and Diamonds Committee was planning to cancel the bbq event, but thankfully some changes to its format, specifically the addition of a delivery option, saw the event exceed any and all expectations.
All funds will support the move and renovations of Newman’s Therapy Building from 12th and Chestnut to the former emergency department. Cinelli says they had to adjust this year’s fundraising total from $115,000 to $60,000.
She is confident that Wednesday’s bbq fundraiser will see them surpass that goal. Totals from the fundraiser are currently pending.
