Members of the Emporia Fire Department Honor Guard have special duties this weekend.
The unit will present the colors at Sunday’s game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Las Vegas Raiders. Commander Richard Johnson had details on KVOE’s 7:05 am newscast Thursday, saying the Honor Guard got confirmation recently about this weekend’s appearance. That followed a lot of training — and a lot of correspondence.
The unit started in 2018. It was supposed to present the colors at a Kansas City Royals game earlier this year, but the shortened baseball season due to coronavirus wiped out that opportunity. The Honor Guard has presented the colors at a number of local events since it began.
Ten members are part of the volunteer unit. Only six can attend Sunday because of team rules.
Kickoff is at noon. Pregame begins at 11 am on Country 101.7 FM.
