Veterans Tribute activities are moving forward — in most cases.
One exception is the traditional ham and bean feed, which typically takes place after the Veterans Day memorial service at the American Legion Post 5 and Veterans of Foreign Wars posts 1980 and 7957. VFW Commander Michael White and Legion Commander Ron Whitney say the meals can’t meet the local six-foot social distancing requirement and thus have to be canceled.
Numerous activities are still on the community calendar:
*Nov. 3-14: Veterans Artist Exhibition, Emporia Arts Center
*Nov. 5, 8 am: Veterans breakfast, Emporia Senior Center
*Nov. 5: Student essay and poster contest, Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce Facebook Live
*Nov. 7: Freedom Fest, All Veterans Memorial
*Nov. 7, 11 am: Quilts of Gratitude ceremony, Fairgrounds Anderson Building
*Nov. 11, 7 am: Veterans breakfast, Presbyterian Manor
*Nov. 11, 9:30 am: Parade, downtown Emporia
*Nov. 11, 11 am: Memorial service, All Veterans Memorial
