Madison overcame a slow start to defeat Chase County 60-12 in the battle of the Bulldogs Friday night.
Madison would shake off back-to-back turnovers early in the first quarter scoring two touchdowns late to take a 14-0 lead into the second quarter. Chase County would cut the deficit in half thanks to a 56-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Mitch Budke to senior Blaise Holloway, however, Madison would add three more scores and give up just one touchdown to take a 38-12 lead into halftime
In the second half, Madison shutout Chase County on the scoreboard and senior Hunter Engle would add three rushing touchdowns to give Madison their sixth win of the season midway through the third quarter. Engle ended the night with six rushing touchdowns and 170 yards of offense.
He says they’ve had a singular focus all season, winning a state championship.
Head Coach Alex McMillian says his team did a great job overcoming their early struggles.
Chase County was led by sophomore quarterback Mitchell Budke with 38 yards. Madison ended the night with 489 total offensive yards while Chase County finished with 173 total yards of offense.
Madison now improves to 6-0 on the season and 3-0 in district play. Chase County now falls to 4-2 on the season and 2-1 in district play.
