High winds wreaked havoc across parts of south-central Kansas overnight, but that didn’t happen across the KVOE listening area.
Gusts at the Emporia Municipal Airport have been as high 51 mph just after 1 am, according to the National Weather Service. Evergy reported one small power outage in Hartford overnight but that has been restored. Neither 4 Rivers nor Flint Hills cooperatives have announced any outages.
Wind speeds will be occasionally breezy but more tolerable through the day, although the fire danger is listed as very high across the area. Weather Service meteorologist John Woynick says grasses, which have been drying out for about a month, are pretty well cured now.
High temperatures in the 70s, occasionally breezy conditions and humidity levels at or below 25 percent are factors as well. High fire danger could return Wednesday, with temperatures in the 80s expected, and no rain is expected for at least a week.
