Osage County had a notable increase in coronavirus cases from Thursday to Tuesday. It also had its first death and its first case originating from the county jail.
There are few details about the person who died. The Osage County Health Department says the person died last month and the Health Department was notified Tuesday by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
Regarding the jail case, the Sheriff’s Office says a “resident” got infected, but it’s unclear when. That individual is in quarantine and will be tested weekly over the next 14 days.
Testing for all inmates and staff begins Wednesday. The Sheriff’s Office and jail staff are working with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment on a testing plan, including weekly tests for all inmates and employees. County staff will also monitor inmates and staff for symptoms.
Osage County went from 119 overall cases Thursday to 130 cases Tuesday. The number of active cases went from 11 to 17.

*Greenwood County added three new cases Tuesday. There are now 67 cases for the county since March. The active case count went from 14 to 17.
*Wabaunsee County has announced five new cases Tuesday, pushing the overall total to 77. The five new cases are the county’s only active cases at this time.
