Travelers in western Osage County are contending with road construction on two highways in two phases.
The Kansas Department of Transportation started work at the US Highway 56-Kansas Highway 31 junction near Osage City this week. The first phase involves milling and overlay from that highway junction about six miles west on US-56 to the Lyon-Osage county line. The project also includes both spurs at the highway junction’s east side.
The second phase begins Oct. 21 and involves milling and overlay on K-31 on the east side of Osage City.
Both parts of the work should be done by Oct. 28.
Work will take place during daylight hours with flaggers and a pilot car getting drivers through the work zones. Delays could go as long as 15 minutes.
Hamm Incorporated of Perry won the contract with a $900,000 bid.
