Advance voting is off to a healthy start in Lyon County.
The County Clerk’s Office had almost 580 total votes recorded at the Courthouse and the Fairgrounds Anderson Building. County Clerk Tammy Vopat isn’t surprised.
Vopat says there have been isolated hiccups, but by and large things have gone smoothly even as lines have developed.
The Courthouse and the Anderson Building are Lyon County’s two options if residents want to vote ahead of the Nov. 3 general election but don’t want to mail a ballot. Voting is from 8 am-5 pm weekdays at the Courthouse the next two weeks and is from 8 am-noon Nov. 2. Hours are different at the Anderson Building — 9 am-4 pm Tuesday, Thursday and Friday this week, 9 am-7 pm Wednesday and 8 am-noon Saturday.
Vopat says nearly 750 of the 3,200-plus mail ballots sent out last week also came in Monday, either directly to the Election Office or through the special ballot dropboxes at the Courthouse and next to the city dropboxes just east of the Courthouse and south of White Auditorium.
Mail ballot applications are due by Oct. 27. Ballots need to be postmarked and sent by Election Day on Nov. 3 and received by Nov. 6 in order to count.
Regardless of how you choose to vote, Vopat says the options are safe and secure.
