The investigation continues — as does the search for a suspect — after a short law enforcement pursuit Saturday.
Highway Patrol Lt. David Hundley tells KVOE News a trooper was patrolling north of Emporia on the Kansas Turnpike and noticed a southbound vehicle committing an unspecified traffic violation. The trooper tried to pull the vehicle over, but the driver fled. The driver allegedly tried to use the ramp at the Emporia tollgate to get off the highway but crashed instead.
Both the driver, a woman, and a male passenger fled on foot. The woman was captured and arrested on suspicion of flee and elude along with various traffic infractions. Her name is not being released.
The man escaped and is currently at large. The only suspect description is a light-haired white or Hispanic male. Troopers searched the area near the Turnpike and US Highway 50 for two hours Saturday before calling off that effort.
