A memorial service is coming for long-time KVOE broadcaster and community icon Roger Hartsook next month.
A memorial service will be taking place at 2 pm on Sunday, Nov. 15 at the Lyon County Fairgrounds Anderson building and will be overseen by Pastors Howard and Laura Cassidy-Moffat. Burial will follow at Eureka Cemetery in Eureka.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, capacity will be limited to 200 people. Masks will be required for those in attendance and social distancing will be observed.
Hartsook passed away Sunday at the age of 76 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka. He leaves behind his son Ian, daughter Jalna, brother Robert, a grandson and nephew.
Hartsook enjoyed an over five-decade career in broadcasting as a news director, reporter, sports commentator, on-air personality and account executive before retiring in 2016.
In addition, Hartsook was deeply involved in the community as well. He served lengthy tenures on the Emporia Board of Education, Emporia Recreation Commission and Salvation Army advisory board. He also helped to develop the K Club athletic boosters group at Emporia State and he was emcee for the Emporia Municipal Band for years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Emporia Friends of the Zoo or Emporia Public School Endowment Fund, sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, PO Box #175, Emporia, Kansas 66801.
