Light to moderate rainfall continues Thursday morning across most of the KVOE listening area.
So far, the KVOE studios have picked up over 1.6 inches of rain since it began Wednesday afternoon. The total at the Emporia Municipal Airport is over 1.2 inches. Other totals:
*Coronado Avenue: 1.6 inches
*Ninth and Lawrence: 1.5 inches
*Between Hartford and Olpe: 1.5 inches
*Between Hamilton and Madison: 2.5 inches
There are reports of at least 1.5 inches of rain across Greenwood County, which remains in a flood watch until noon Thursday. So far, there have been no flood reports according to Greenwood County Dispatch.
This is easily the most significant rainfall the area has seen in three months, and it comes at a time when abnormally dry to moderate drought conditions now cover the area. The last time we had half an inch of rainfall was Sept. 11, when we had 0.85 hundredths at KVOE. The last time we went over an inch was July 28, when we picked up 1.8 inches of rain.
Lyon and most surrounding counties are abnormally dry, but moderate drought covers most of Coffey and Greenwood counties at this time.
