A possible expansion and addition to the Lyon County Highway Department has entered the preliminary stages following approval from Lyon County Commissioners.
Lyon County Commissioners approved an agreement with BG Consultants for a preliminary engineering report for the project during their weekly action session Thursday morning. Assistant Lyon County Engineer Jim Brull says the project will see an expansion of the department’s shop space and the addition of a new building on the north side of the facility.
Brull says the work is needed as the department’s shop currently has limited space to comfortably accommodate the amount of work that takes place inside it.
The lump-sum cost of the agreement is $10,000. Brull anticipates the initial report should be completed and available for review by commissioners within the next month.
Additionally, commissioners approved the posting of weight limits on one county bridge due to changes in the state formula used for rating bridges. Commissioners also approved a quote from Alfred Benesch and Company in the amount of $251,000 for the 2021 biannual bridge inspection.
The total cost breakdown will see $100,000 paid from the Road and Bridge fund with the remaining $151,000 to be paid from the Special Bridge fund.
Commissioners then spent the remainder of their meeting in executive session, no action was taken.
The Lyon County Commission will reconvene for its regular action meeting at 10 am Thursday inside the Lyon County Courthouse.
