Trick or treating will be taking place on Commerical Street Saturday with some slight adjustments to year’s past.
Several downtown businesses will be welcoming families and trick-or-treaters throughout the afternoon during the relatively new local Halloween tradition put on by Emporia Main Street. Jessica Buccholz of Emporia Main Street says there were a lot of questions as to whether or not the event would be able to take place given the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
However; she says after meeting with local business owners Main Street felt very confident the event could take place, with some minor mitigation adjustments. Buccholz says participating businesses will be observing social distancing, masks will be required including underneath Halloween masks and candy will be dispensed in a different way than most are accustomed to.
Downtown trick-or-treating will take place from 11 am to 1 pm. For more information visit Emporiamainstreet.com.
As for traditional door-to-door trick-or-treating, no restrictions have been issued at the city or county levels. However; administrators are encouraging all residents to follow previously issued mandates and orders as they enjoy the evening’s activities.
This means mask usage, social distancing and staying home if feeling sick or unwell.
