Some will be virtual, some will remain the same and some will have mitigation requirements in place, however, All Veterans Tribute Activities will still be taking place this year.
Activities officially begin Tuesday with the annual All Veterans Art Exhibit at the Emporia Arts Center and will continue through mid-November. The annual student essay and poster contest awards ceremony will be next on the schedule and will take place virtually this year with only essays being submitted for review.
Additional activities include Emporia Main Street’s Freedom Fest next Saturday, the annual Fall Craft and Trade Show at Flint Hills Mall, the Veterans Day Parade and Memorial Service on Nov. 11 and much more. Organizer Susan Rathke says she is very proud of the local community for its ability to adjust to the ongoing pandemic to ensure we still provide local veterans with the recognition and respect they deserve.
While much is remaining the same, Rathke says one change to the schedule was the cancelation of the Emporia Senior Center’s annual Veterans Day breakfast due to the pandemic. However, she says Presbyterian Manor is still planning to hold its annual breakfast in a drive-thru format.
