The season came to an end Friday night for the Emporia High football team with a 36-14 loss to Blue Valley Southwest, but the Spartans did not go down without a fight.
After a scoreless 1st quarter Southwest scored 3 touchdowns in the 2nd quarter to take a 21-0 lead at halftime.
In the 3rd quarter an interception by Daniel Knapp set up a 13 play drive that ended with Camden Kirmer scoring on a 8 yard run.
A fumble recovery returned to the 2 yard line by Charles Snyder set up a 2 yard touchdown run by Cam Geitz and the Spartans cut the deficit to 21-14 with 3:42 to play in the 3rd quarter.
Southwest would regain the momentum, returning the ensuing kick-off for a touchdown to take a 27-14 lead. They would add a safety and touchdown in the 4th quarter for the final margin of victory.
Emporia High Interim Head Coach Keaton Tuttle liked the way they responded to start the 2nd half.
