The general election isn’t until Tuesday, but Lyon County already has 35 percent turnout thanks to heavy advance voting.
County Clerk Tammy Vopat says there has been heavy turnout at the Courthouse, which ends Monday. The Fairgrounds Anderson Building had over 1,900 people vote for the week that building was used as an offiste voter location. There have also been nearly 2,900 mail ballots received so far. Almost 83 percent of the requested mail ballots have now been returned and counted. Lyon County has around 20,000 registered voters.
Over 450 people voted in person at the Lyon County Courthouse on Friday, which is believed to be a single-day record. An untold number of people also went to the Fairgrounds Anderson Building to cast their ballots Friday, even though that voting site was closed all last week.
Advance voting wraps up from 8 am to noon Monday and only at the County Courthouse. The polls are open from 7 am to 7 pm Tuesday.
