By the way, the general election is Tuesday.
If you’re one of the 500 or so Lyon County residents who received a mail ballot but haven’t sent those back in yet, County Clerk Tammy Vopat says you should skip “mailing it in” and bring it in instead.
Nearly 2,900 mail ballots, or around 83 percent of those mailed out in Lyon County, have been returned and counted. Lyon County residents can use the special dropboxes, one at the Courthouse and one south of White Auditorium next to the city utility dropboxes. Residents can also bring their mail ballots inside the Courthouse to the Election Office and at any polling place through 7 pm Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the in-office advance vote process ends at noon Monday at the County Courthouse (is now officially over).
Polling places are open from 7 am to 7 pm Tuesday, and there have been a handful of changes from past elections:
*In Emporia, Precincts 3, 4 and 28 — all originally at Sacred Heart — will vote at White Auditorium. Precincts 5 and 6, which had voted at Grace United Methodist Church, will now use the Lee Beran Recreation Center. Precincts 9 and 10 that used to vote at the Amend Girl Scout Center will vote at the Emporia Senior Center. Precinct 14 has been moved from St Marks Lutheran Church to Twelfth Avenue Baptist, while Precinct 15 now votes at Presbyterian Church West Campus.
*For Precinct 21 in Admire, voting is at the North Lyon County Community Building
*For Precinct 24 in Americus, voting is at the Masonic Lodge instead of the Senior Center.
