Part of Weaver Street is getting some much-needed work.
Work got started last week between Sixth Avenue and East Highway 50. Crews are repairing pavement and storm sewers and could be finished by early December, weather permitting. City Engineer Jim Ubert says the pavement repair is the main project.
Ubert says some of the affected pavement may have been in place the last 20 to 30 years, and he expects this repair will last at least 20 years. Funding comes from additional work already done on other parts of Weaver, as well as Logan and South avenues near Industrial Park 3.
Through traffic on US-50 is not affected by this work, but there is a signed detour route for truck traffic on Weaver Street. Drivers are told be cautious near the work zone, use the detour or find other routes to get around the work.
