Steve Vecchione, Todd Maddox and Ron McCoy did not get the election results they wanted Tuesday night.
The trio of Democrats all filed for election shortly before the primary election filing deadline in early June and watched Tuesday as their Republican opponents claimed victory. Vecchione, who lost to Senate Vice President and 17th District Senator Jeff Longbine, says Longbine did well, but he admitted getting off message — which didn’t help his campaign at all. He also says he didn’t get a warm reception from Lyon County Democrats when he changed parties from being a Libertarian.
Vecchione considering a run for a local political office — as a Libertarian — in the future.
In the Kansas House 60th District race, Maddox was close behind incumbent Mark Schreiber until the counting got to the midway point. Schreiber pulled away after that. Maddox has been unavailable for comment.
McCoy also had a solid start, trailing Doug Peck by just over 100 votes early, before Peck expanded the lead the rest of the night. McCoy hopes county commissioners will take to heart his push towards more county involvement in economic development, especially for small businesses.
McCoy says he is considering a run for political office in the future.
