While warmer temperatures have been the norm for quite some time lately, Evergy is aware that norm will not remain in place forever.
As such, Evergy spokesperson Gina Penzig, a guest of KVOE’s Newsmaker 2 segment Wednesday morning, laid out Evergy’s protocols as it pertains to the state’s Cold Weather Rule. As KVOE has reported recently, the state’s Cold Weather Rule prevents utilities from shutting off services to customers whenever the temperature is forecasted to be in the low-to-mid 30’s for at least a 24-hour period.
Penzig says Evergy is constantly observing the forecast in preparation for colder weather often looking ahead as far as 48-hours in advance to ensure their customers are as well informed as possible when the rule is in effect.
Per the rule, customers who may be behind on their payments will have the option of spreading past due amounts over a 12-month period. However; the burden is on the customer to ensure they have contacted their utility provider to set up payment arrangements to avoid shutoffs and related restart fees.
Penzig says when it comes to the COVID-19 pandemic and the financial hardships it has brought about, Evergy recognizes many individuals may currently be experiencing difficulties in making payments for the very first time. As such, she says Evergy is always available to help their customers navigate the process and customers can do so in an assortment of ways.
The simplest options for that purpose according to Penzig are to visit Evergy.com and set up their plans virtually or to call 1-800-383-1183. In addition to setting up payment arrangements, Penzig says Evergy can also help to direct customers towards financial resources that can best serve them in their time of need.
