Two weeks ago, Governor Laura Kelly mentioned plans to work with Republican leaders on a mask mandate. Last week, both sides had constructive talks on an updated COVID-19 response policy, which may include some sort of mask directive.
On Wednesday, Governor Kelly said work continues on that vein — so she’s not ready to announce any adjustments at this time.
Kelly says she supports a Republican venture to start a public service campaign, but she also continued her push for a mask mandate, saying it’s needed to protect seniors and keep both schools and businesses open – even though she admitted any mandate probably would not lead to 100-percent compliance.
Kansas added just under 3,000 new coronavirus cases and 41 new deaths between Monday and Wednesday. Over 92,000 residents have now developed COVID-19 since the pandemic started almost eight months ago. Nearly 1,100 people have died.
