Several mediation hearings on the Lyon County District Court docket for Friday have been postponed.
Hector Velazquez and William Walters were set for hearings in connection to an alleged shooting at 1213 Beverly in June. They and Edgar Gonzalez are all charged with aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery, attempted aggravated robbery, conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery, aggravated assault, aggravated battery and aggravated kidnapping.
Tyler Bosiljevac was in line for a hearing connected to allegations of sexual misconduct attempted misconduct with six teenagers between July 2016 and this past February. The former Emporia High teacher is charged with indecent liberties, attempted sexual exploitation, attempted unlawful sexual relations and sexual battery.
Joshua Forero was set for a hearing after an alleged chase from Emporia to Franklin County over the Memorial Day weekend. He’s facing charges of aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, interference with a law enforcement officer, flee and elude and other counts.
All these hearings were canceled after word from Eighth District Judge Benjamin Sexton due to a schedule conflict. New hearing dates are pending.
Mediation hearings, also known as settlement conferences, are a new approach for handling court cases as dockets swell due to coronavirus. Judges discuss legal matters with both sides separately before either reaching a resolution or seeing the case take the next step forward.
