Last week’s healthy rains cleared Greenwood County from moderate drought, but didn’t change the US Drought Monitor’s map beyond that for area counties.
Virtually all of Coffey County is in moderate drought along with a sliver of southeast Osage County. The rest of the area, including Lyon County, remains abnormally dry.
From last Wednesday to last Thursday, the area had its most significant rainfall since late July. Much of the area, including Emporia, had at least 1.5 inches of rain and there were isolated reports of 2-plus inches in Emporia and central Greenwood County.
