Active coronavirus cases are finally trending lower, but new cases still took another step up Friday.
Lyon County Public Health added 24 new cases and 28 recovered patients, pushing the active caseload from 209 to 205. It’s the first time all week recovered patients have outpaced new patients.
The death toll remains at 41, and there is one death awaiting final cause information from the Kansas Department of Health and Environment.
Lyon County cluster information:
*Colleges and Universities: 1 active cluster, 107 total cases, 25 active cases, 0 deaths
*Schools: 3 active cluster, 41 total cases, 16 active cases, 0 deaths
*Gatherings: 1 active cluster, 6 total cases, 3 active cases, 0 deaths
*Long-Term Care Facility: 1 active cluster, 3 cases, 0 deaths
Emporia State University reported 32 new cases over the past week. Its total is 121 cases since mid-August. It also has four students in on-campus isolation and 10 in on-campus quarantine.
Flint Hills Technical College has four cases associated with the college and nobody in quarantine. The college does not list its overall case total.
USD 253 Emporia had 19 staffers and 12 students develop COVID with 44 staff and 39 students going into quarantine as a result. Riverside Elementary had to serve breakfast and lunch from a secondary location Friday after an exposure, and Emporia High varsity volleyball players were told to quarantine this past week after exposure during their final tournament.
USD 251 North Lyon County had a district support staffer and two students, one at North Lyon County Elementary/Junior High and one at Northern Heights, develop COVID-19. Six staffers and 23 students went into quarantine this week.
USD 252 Southern Lyon County had three staff and two students get coronavirus for the week of Oct. 25-29. Five staffers and 26 students were quarantined that week.
So far, just one area county has made a coronavirus report Friday. Coffey County reported an increase of 25 new cases to push to overall total to 198. There are now 30 active cases. Nine people have died.
