Coronavirus has already altered the schedule for Emporia’s All Veterans Tribute a few times, and another adjustment is coming.
On KVOE’s Newsmaker segment Monday, Emporia Quilters Guild spokesperson Kathy Hamman said this weekend’s Quilts of Gratitude will be at the Fairgrounds Anderson Building, but it will be a drive-thru event due to the recent change in Lyon County’s public health order.
Mask use is requested as veterans and family members pick up quilts on Saturday. Organizers are planning to line up recipients in alphabetical order to make the presentation as smooth as possible. Close to 30 quilts will be handed out Saturday, with another seven already picked up.
This follows the cancellation of the Emporia Senior Center’s veterans breakfast and certain adjustments to Freedom Fest this past Saturday. Monday night’s Veterans Roundtable will have a 45-person attendance limit, also due to COVID-19.
Quilts of Gratitude will be from 10 am to noon Saturday. Residents attending the event are encouraged to enter the Fairgrounds parking lot using the 12th Avenue entrance.
