Recent rainfall did nothing to change the US Drought Monitor’s most recent map for area counties.
Abnormally dry conditions still cover most of the KVOE listening area. Most of Coffey County and a sliver of southeast Osage County remain in moderate drought.
Rain totals varied late Monday into Tuesday, but much of the KVOE listening area got close to half an inch of rain.
The dry conditions have meant increased grass fire activity for Emporia Fire, which dealt with two small grass fires on Veterans Day. Firefighters put out the fires at 1027 Road 70 and 653 Road 230 quickly with no reports of any injuries or structural damage.
