Quilts of Gratitude put a bow on Emporia’s All Veterans Tribute activities Saturday.
With new gatherings guidance from Lyon County Public Health earlier this month, organizers shifted from the traditional format to a drive-thru event at the Fairgrounds Anderson Building. Organizer Sandy Carnes says things went well and she was glad the event could move forward when others this year couldn’t.
Over 30 veterans either picked up quilts at the ceremony or got them earlier. Carnes says flags put out by the Patriot Guard Riders helped to enhance the atmosphere and it was definitely a change to have the event at the end of All Veterans Tribute as opposed to the start of the middle of the event lineup.
The Emporia Regional Quilters Guild has Quilts of Gratitude calendars available at this time, either through guild members of the Emporia Area Chamber of Commerce. Calendars are $10. Interested people should call Carnes at 343-0843 or Kathy Hamman at 343-5591.
