Emporia, Reading and Miller fire crews responded to a grass fire east of Emporia Sunday afternoon.
Crews were called to 2313 Road M just before 3:20 pm after a controlled burn got out of control according to Emporia Fire Batallion Chief Eron Steinlage. Steinlage reports the fire managed to scorch around 50 acres of grass before crews managed to get it under control.
No injuries or structural damage were reported. High winds and dry conditions have led to high fire danger throughout the weekend.
So far only one area county — Osage — has issued a burn ban due to the conditions.
