Habitat for Humanity celebrated the completion of its latest home in Emporia Friday.
A special dedication ceremony saw a small gathering of individuals convene at 714 Cottonwood to welcome Martha Salas and her family to their new home. Salas says she is grateful to Habitat for helping provide her and her loved ones with their dream home.
As is customary for recipients Salas and her family had a hand in the home’s construction, 360 hours of “sweat equity” to be exact according to Habitat Executive Director Eric Kirby. Kirby says homeowner involvement is the most important aspect of what Habitat does.
Kirby adds they’re proud to be welcoming the family to the home which has seen several setbacks over the past year.
The Salas home is one of two projects which has been underway through Habitat this year. The second home is located at 122 Mechanic.
Kirby says they are still in the process of selecting a family for that home. His hope is they will have a family selected and moved in by the end of the year.
While speaking with KVOE Kirby wished to convey the organization’s gratitude to their numerous sponsors that helped to make the home a possibility. This included Coffman Construction, Grimmet Construction, Mark II Lumber, Burnap Bros. Plumbing, Modern Air, Al’s Electric, Moore Roofing, MRSK, Double D Mowing, Atchison Drywall and the City of Emporia.
