Several local organizations are coming together to track the history of food insecurity in Lyon County — and, hopefully, to reduce its future impact.
An online collaboration has formed between Emporia at the Table, Healthier Lyon County, the Lyon County Food and Farm Council and the Lyon County History Center. Called “Hungry for History: The Lyon County Food System,” this effort traces the history of food production, processing, distribution and consumption across the county. The History Center is focusing on the history of food, while EAT, the Food and Farm Council and Healthier Lyon County will zero in on food insecurity. To that end, EAT is getting narratives from residents that have dealt with food insecurity.
This is National Hunger and Homelessness Week, and social media posts will take place through Nov. 30. Click here for the link if you wish to share your food insecurity story. In addition, the History Center is accepting non-perishable food donations for the rest of the month.
