Amendments to the city of Emporia’s mask mandate will see discussion and possible action Wednesday evening.
Emporia City Commissioners will discuss a potential amendment to the mandate during a study session Wednesday evening. The discussions come two weeks after the Lyon County Commission passed their county-wide mask mandate through Jan. 14, which is similar to the city ordinance but has additional requirements like people being in line to enter indoor public spaces, workers in any space visited by customers or members of the public regardless of who else may be inside, employees in common areas and people in activities or events either held or managed by the Kansas Legislature.
City staff is recommending adoption of the county mask mandate for “ease of enforcement.” Commissioners may formally approve an amendment during an action session later in the evening. If they do, the mandate would be effective until Dec. 22, extending from the current Nov. 21 deadline.
Additional items on the commission’s agenda will include discussions on the city’s contract with Emporia Main Street and an update on SPARK funding. Additional action items will include potential approval of the city’s 2021 maintenance agreement with the Emporia Public Library.
The city’s study session is scheduled to begin at 5:30 pm followed by their action session at 7 pm. Both meetings will take place inside the Municipal Courtroom at White Auditorium.
