The Emporia Recreation Commission is poised to move forward with its coronavirus recovery plan — if the virus eventually lets up.
Staffers discussed the plan and the current situation during the monthly board meeting Monday. Director Tom McEvoy says this is a difficult time for the Rec Commission and activities at the Lee Beran Recreation Center.
The Rec Commission is looking at several options, including mask use in the fitness center — aside from cardio equipment — and gymnasium as well as reducing attendance in the gym for winter sports like basketball and adult volleyball. Staff are reaching out to other recreation commissions across Kansas for input.
The board gave staff permission to implement new policies as needed depending on community trends. McEvoy says the Rec Commission is working closely with Lyon County Public Health on any changes, and he says staff are meeting constantly to discuss options moving forward.
