The Kansas State High School Activities Association Board of Directors has voted to allow High School and Middle School competitions during the month of December.
Last Week the KSHSAA Executive Board approved a motion to suspend high school and middle school activities until January 14th.
Tuesday the Board of directors amended the proposal to allow teams to compete from December 1st until December 22nd.
Teams will not be allowed to play or practice beginning December 23rd until January 3rd. The first date to resume competition will January 8th.
The Board also voted to allow no spectators to attend games, matches or meets from December 1st thru January 28th.
After January 28th attendance will be limited to allow for appropriate distancing for the facility and in accordance with local admission and attendance policies.
All participants, and spectators when allowed, will be required to wear masks except when athletes are competing.
There will be no change in the number competitions for the winters sports.
Emporia High boys basketball Coach Beau Welch was not surprised by the decision.
Emporia High girls basketball Coach Carolyn Dorsey is grateful to get the chance to play.
Emporia High wrestling Coach Brook Medrano is happy to get the chance for the wrestlers to compete.
Both basketball and wrestling tournaments will be allowed with restrictions. For basketball only 4 teams can be playing at the same time in 2 different gym. Wrestling tournaments will be limited to 8 teams or 112 wrestlers competing.
Emporia Highs wrestling teams, boys swim and dive teams and basketball teams are scheduled to open their seasons next week.
Next Thursday, December 3rd, The boys swim and dive teams are scheduled to host a meet. Friday December 4th the basketball teams were scheduled to host Highland Park. However Highland Park has not been cleared to play by the 501 school district and the games have been postponed. The boys wrestling team opens their season Saturday December 5th at Leavenworth.
