The Emporia Municipal Airport is receiving a state grant for upcoming improvements.
The Kansas Airport Improvement Program is granting the city almost $155,000 to design runway improvements. This is part of the Eisenhower Legacy Transportation Program, commonly called IKE, and requires local governments to pay five percent of the total project cost.
The Emporia design project is one of 32 projects approved for this round of funding.
This follows action by Emporia city commissioners in September to set aside $60,000 in city funds to expand the runway by 51 feet as part of a $600,000 overall project.
