The time period right after Thanksgiving is typically busy for the Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve, but that’s not quite the case this year — at least for events.
Chief of Interpretation Heather Brown says the preserve has canceled its candlelight tour from earlier this month, and it has canceled its Christmas event connected to the Chase County Country Christmas as COVID-19 pandemic numbers have soared across the area and the state. Brown says plans are in the works for next year.
Even with coronavirus, Brown says the preserve has been busy as people use the trails. Brown says around 25,000 people have visited the preserve so far this year, which on track with attendance from past years even though the property had to be closed early in the pandemic.
