Gregory Thomas Goad, the man who reached a recent plea agreement on attempted kidnapping and domestic battery charges, will return to Lyon County District Court early next year.
Goad submitted a request to withdraw that plea on Oct. 29 citing ineffective legal counsel as a reason for the motion. Proceedings in this case were continued until early February by Judge Jeffrey Larson during a hearing Tuesday afternoon.
Goad’s previous attorney Rand Simmons has withdrawn from the case with Rick Meier taking over as legal counsel for Goad.
In late October, Goad was sentenced to over 15 years in prison on two counts each of attempted kidnapping and aggravated domestic battery. Goad was originally charged with 30 counts including aggravated criminal sodomy, kidnapping, aggravated assault and aggravated battery after alleged illegal activity with a then-22-year-old in December 2019 and this past January.
Goad’s next appearance will be on Feb. 3 at 9 am.
