Even with coronavirus providing an apparent hurdle, the Emporia Community Foundation’s seventh annual match Day outdid itself — again.
Last year’s record of $286,000 is no longer a record.
Community Foundation Director Becky Nurnberg says she had a hard time keeping quiet with that total.
Totals were announced on KVOE’s airwaves Tuesday. Main Street Mommas brought in $18,506.69. Kristen Dean and others nearby reacted:
Team Schnak Strong was the top fundraiser with almost $45,000, an individual record for a Match Day participant. Organizer Kent Schnakenberg spent most of the program driving up and down Burlingame before he got the word.
Pioneer Bluffs garnered almost $36,000, around $9,000 more than it had ever brought in through the event. Director Lynn Smith was “overwhelmed.”
Camp Alexander had $22,000. Spokesperson Carla Fessler was joined by several students:
Of the 23 participating groups, 13 raised at least $10,000 and seven generated over $20,000. Totals can be found below.
12:30 pm Tuesday: Resetting the record books (again): Emporia Community Foundation’s Match Day generates over $322,000
The Emporia Community Foundation’s Match Day rewrote the record book again.
The fundraiser generated $322,035.90 — shattering last year’s prior record by over $35,000 — in a COVID-19 atmosphere. Since Match Day started, the event has now generated over $1.4 million for 35 area charities and community groups.
Of the 23 participating groups this year, 13 raised at least $10,000 and seven generated over $20,000. The top fundraiser was Team Schnak Strong at $44,819.51. Totals will be online shortly at KVOE.com.
Once again, the fundraiser benefited from a $50,000 matching pool with donations from the Clint Bowyer 79 Fund, Reeble Endowed Foundation, Trusler Foundation, Preston Family Trust and Jones Testamentary Trust.
