After two weeks of remote learning, USD 456 Marais Des Cygnes is preparing to resume in-person education.
The district is scheduled to resume in-person classes on Dec. 14. The return comes as the district has been approved to conduct in-school testing by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment with the use of a “minimally invasive rapid test.”
District Superintendent Joe Sample recently spoke with KVOE News and explained the testing will only be available for students and staff who show symptoms of the virus.
Due to the move to online learning, the district had to cancel all extracurricular activities. Now with the regular schedule set to resume, the district has been hard at work to reschedule basketball games for the junior and senior high teams.
According to Sample, the process has been smooth so far with only a few minor athletic events being unsalvageable.
Practices will resume for the high school and junior high teams on Dec. 7 with all student-athletes set to undergo COVID-19 testing prior to the start of practices.
Additional information can be found on the district’s Facebook page or by calling 785-549-3521.
