The Emporia State womens basketball team out scored Newman 80-56 in their home opener Thursday night.
The Lady Hornets used a strong defensive effort holding Newman to 35 percent shooting for the game and were on fire from the 3 point line making 15 3s.
Assistant Coach Kiel Unruh said they followed the game plan.
Tre’Zure Jobe scored a game high 22 points to lead the Lady Hornets. Kali Martin was 5 for 6 from the 3 point line and finished with 15 points.
Karsen Schultz in her first game of the season finished with 16 points and a game high 9 rebounds.
Emporia State used an 18-0 run in the 1st and 2nd quarters to turn a 2 point deficit into a 16 point lead. They would lead by as many as 28 in the 3rd quarter.
The Lady Hornets are now 2-1 for the season and will host Central Oklahoma Saturday.
