A new holiday event at the Emporia Public Library went smoothly Saturday.
Residents took advantage of the library’s first-ever Kids’ Holiday Breakfast Cruise Thru. The event is a temporary replacement for Breakfast With Santa, which had to be shelved due to coronavirus health standards. Still, Library Director Robin Newell says it was good to have a holiday event this year.
Kids took home donuts, bananas, hot chocolate mix, candy canes and Santa crafts. Close to 230 packets were handed out.
Newell says the goal is to bring Breakfast With Santa back next year if the pandemic is over, in part because of the energy it brought to the library in past years.
Meanwhile, parents have a chance to get free books for their kids beginning Monday as part of a Friends of the Library project. The Friends will be handing out wrapped children’s books while supplies last. Residents need to call the library at 340-6462 and give the age of their children before going to the library for pickup. Books are available for kids between newborn and fifth grade.
