Lyon County authorities are announcing the third vehicle pursuit in or around Emporia over the past two weeks.
Lyon County Deputy Nathan Rankin says the chase started in the 600 block of East South Avenue around 2:30 am Saturday and reached speeds of over 100 mph as the suspect vehicle traveled east out of Emporia. The driver, later identified as 38-year-old Mark Grigsby of Leavenworth, stayed on Road 160 before he was stopped in the 1300 block.
Grigsby was arrested on suspicion of flee and elude, reckless driving and driving under the influence. Formal charges are pending.
Local authorities closed November with two chases in four days. On Nov. 25, 26-year-old Dustin Craige of Council Grove allegedly led a chase from the Interstate 35-Kansas Highway 130 junction into Emporia before he was arrested. He faces formal charges of theft, flee and elude and aggravated assault on law enforcement.
On Nov. 28, five Emporia teens allegedly led a pursuit that went from the 2000 block of West Sixth to the roundabouts connecting US Highway 50 to the Kansas Turnpike and I-35. Formal charges are pending against all five teens at last word.
