There has been a major shift in leadership for the Kansas Senate as 17th District Senator Jeff Longbine of Emporia will no longer serve as Senate Vice President.
The announcement came via a news release from the office of Governor Laura Kelly Monday following the official results of the Senate leadership election in which 35th District Republican Senator Rick Wilborn was elected to serve in the Vice President role in the coming year. Additionally, 16th District Republican Senator Ty Masterson was voted to take over as Senate President supplanting fellow Republican Senator Susan Wagle, who is retiring from the Senate at the end of the year.
Longbine will join KVOE’s On-Air Chat at 10:06 am Wednesday with more details about his situation and the upcoming legislative session beginning next month.
Longbine has served in the Kansas Senate since 2010 and was elected as Senate Vice President in 2017. Longbine was re-elected to continue serving in the Senate last month defeating Democrat Steve Vecchione.
