The MIAA announced it will use a new method to determine its men’s and women’s basketball standings this year. The NCAA has reduced the number of teams that will qualify for postseason competition.
The MIAA Athletic Directors unanimously approved using a weighted formula, which is comprised of 80 percent of a team’s winning percentage and 20 percent of the team’s total number of games played. Another element of the formula is that a team must play a minimum of 11 games to be eligible to qualify for the MIAA Basketball Championship and to claim the regular-season championship.
The NCAA Division II Administrative Committee has approved a recommendation to reduce bracket and field sizes for the 2021 Division II winter and spring championships.
For basketball the number of teams will be reduced to 48 from 64.
For spring sports baseball will be reduced to 42 teams.
Softball reduced to 48 teams.
Tennis teams reduced to 36 teams.
The number of athletes that will qualify for both the indoor and outdoor track and field championships will be reduced.
