The Emporia Gazette building is on the market.
The initial building was constructed in 1875, based on Lyon County records, with a warehouse built in 1974 and a commercial re-roofing done last year. The property, including over 20,000 square feet of office and other space, is appraised at over $264,000 total. It is currently listed for $259,900. The building is on both the National and Kansas State Register of Historic Places as part of the city’s historic downtown district.
The Gazette started in 1890. William Allen White bought the paper in 1895. Chris Walker, White’s great-grandson, and his wife, Ashley, have been associated with the paper since 1995 and have operated the Gazette as editors or publishers since 2000. KVOE News has reached out to the Walkers for additional comment.
