The Emporia Community had a special opportunity to get their hands on a piece of history courtesy of Lyon County State Bank Saturday morning.
The bank held a special coin sale at both banking locations Saturday afternoon with the US Mint’s commemorative coins depicting the Tall Grass Prairie National Preserve up for purchase. The coins show a skyward view of a Regal Fritillary butterfly along with Bluestem and Indian grasses.
LCSB President Brad Yount says the bank is honored to be able to release the quarter. He says it is a great representation of the state of Kansas.
Visitors to the bank had the option of purchasing single rolls of the coins at a cost of $10 or ten rolls for $100.
The preserve is the only location within the National Park Service solely dedicated to the preservation and history of the Tall Grass Prairie.
