Some local citizens received quite the surprise in downtown Emporia Friday afternoon.
While downtown Friday afternoon, lucky individuals received a generous holiday gift thanks to the staff of ValuNet Fiber. Representatives were posted throughout town for the company’s special Secret Santa Blitz cash giveaway.
Jelinda Watts of ValuNet says the giveaway came about as part of ValuNet’s annual Gifts of Kindness efforts within the local community. Watts explains those efforts came about many years ago when ValuNet staff were trying to think of a Christmas gift for their fore founders.
ValuNet Marketing Manager Kala Maxfield says this year’s effort is even more special as she believes it is an amazing way to honor the memory of ValuNet Fiber founder Rick Tidwell who passed away last month.
ValuNet representatives did have some criteria to assist with the random giveaway focusing on elderly couples, families with small children, citizens utilizing public transportation or with no apparent transportation of their own and individuals wearing a badge.
The afternoon culminated with a special “traffic stop” organized by ValuNet and the Emporia Police Department. Rather than receiving a ticket, however, that lucky individual too received a cash gift.
In total, $2,000 in cash was handed out as part of the giveaway Friday.
